A few young people first began to organize a local prayer in 1992 after the Pilgrimage of Trust in Dayton, Ohio. The group met monthly in the apartment of an Emory medical student who had lived at Taizé as a volunteer for a year. We gathered to prepare for the Taizé brothers’ visit to Atlanta and Gainesville, GA for a small Pilgrimage of Trust in the winter of 1993. Next the prayer moved to the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, in Decatur. Around the time of the Atlanta 1996 Olympics, the Cathedral of St. Philip began a prayer, and soon more churches joined in. Churches from a variety of traditions loosely joined together to create a rhythm of weekly, monthly and seasonal prayers that has continued ever since. There is a group of faithful musicians who play at every Monday night prayer.
There is a wonderful network of people responsible for these prayers around Atlanta. The Cathedral of St. Philip currently hosts the largest prayer.
Lisa Persons currently maintains this site and welcomes suggestions. Lisa organizes the 2nd Monday prayer at St. Bart’s.
